How do i breakin in a nitro traxxas revo?when it says 1/4 throttle do i just pull the trigger to 1/4?

do i just pull the trigger to 1/4 or do i adjust something on the controller?

Yeah but the Revo is a 1/10 scale.Run it rich for one tank, just buzz around a parking lot. Then re fuel and run it it 1/2 throttle, for 1 tank.Between runs let engine cool completely. Then repeat 1/2 throttle buzz around, let cool, fill it and go full throttle off and on,do that twice, and she's ready to go bashing. As far as the adjustments goes don't mess with any thing. If you ever have a nother q mail me i been racing for, shoot since they came out,i'm 50yrs old.

Is a Traxxas nitro Rustler good for a beginner?

I have never owned a RC car but i want to, and i was wondering if a Rustler was a good car for a beginner? Any other info would be great.

Thank you,

i would not suggest a nitro car for a beginner, you may turn out to be very good at tuning an love it but generally, you will be frustrated. i would suggest something like a stampede or rustler xl-5. they are cheaper, easier to maintain, less likely to break, and much more beginner friendly. with a 7-cell battery they are also quite quick. i would suggest going to a local hobby shop and talking to them

i have a Traxxas nitro rustler and it is running terribly?

if i push the button on the starter and hold it it runs perfectly i can give it gas and it runs like its brand new but thats while i hold the button but as soon as i let go of the button it seems to bog down and run really crappy any answers or ideas? has new glow plugs i havent touched any settings there stock and i am runnin 20% nitro top fuel

There are a few possibilities.

Since you say the glow plug is new, it seems less likely that it is the culprit, but you should double check it anyway. If you don't have a spare ignitor, just leave the wire on the plug and try and start the car. Does the element glow brightly throughout all of the coils? If not, then either the starting wand needs new batteries or the glow plug was bad out of the package. Typically whenever an rc dies when the ignitor is taken off, then the plug is bad.

The fuel could be another source of your problems. How old is it? Did you leave the bottle/can open? Glow fuel can go bad rather easily. The fuel is methanol and attracts water (hydroscopic). Try some fresh fuel and see if that solves the issue.

The other thing I noticed is that you have left the carb needles at their stock settings - this is generally very rich for the engine's break in. Provided you have broken the engine in as per the manual, then you need to start leaning it out. It's entirely possible that your settings are so rich that you are drowning the glow plug. Lean out the High Speed Needle in 1 hour increments (1/12 of a full turn) until you can get the engine to run on its own. And, try my tuning guide once you can keep the car running:

Why do we ‘tune’ our engines? How is it done? This guide assumes that you are familiar with all of the parts of your R/C's engine. If you are unsure what a Low Speed Needle (LSN), High Speed Needle (HSN), idle screw etc are, please refer to the manual (RTFM).
Tuning a nitro/methanol 2 stroke engine literally means adjusting the air/fuel mixture inside the chamber. This is done by means of adjusting the amount of fuel that is allowed to flow into the carburetor via needles which can be opened and closed. Most of us know that there are a wide variety of factors that affect that air/fuel mixture in the chamber other than just adjusting the needles. Because of this an engine may have to be tuned several times in the same day for optimum performance. Not maintaining an optimum air/fuel ratio can result in poor performance, or even engine failure!

There is a point, in every engine, at which air/fuel mixture will allow the engine to obtain its maximum HP and RPM’s. Tuning your engine to that point can be dangerous, as the mixture is somewhat lacking in the lubricants necessary to give maximum protection to the engine. Therefore, most people will want to run slightly rich (more fuel in the mixture) of that point. This is referred to as the ‘Sweet Spot.’ Some racers will run at pure max potential, but they also don’t usually care if the engine only lasts a gallon… Running at those settings can be very dangerous because being too lean is just a very slight adjustment away.

And running lean is the real engine killer, not temperature. With proper lubrication, the internal components of an R/C engine can easily withstand temperatures of 300F, maybe even more. The thing is, these engines are designed to operate at temperatures around 210 – 270 F. While there is the possibility you will encounter an engine and conditions that dictate the temperature at proper tune is over 300, it will be a rare occurrence. What that boils down to is that there is a good possibility that there is a problem if your engine reaches too high of a temperature. That is why it’s a good idea to monitor the engine temperature, but not use it as a guide for adjusting the air/fuel mixture in the engine.

So, how do you get to that ‘Sweet Spot?’
1) Start out with rich settings. If you are unsure how to go about this, an easy way is to start with stock needle settings. This includes the idle screw - make sure it is set at factory settings, usually a 1 or 2 mm opening for the idle stop. The factories always set engines rich for break ins.
2) next, warm up the engine. Try not to hammer the throttle too much while its still bone cold, but slowly work your way up to a couple WOT runs.
3) Now that the engine is warmed up (1/2 tank is good), do a couple WOT runs of about 50-100ft in front of you and pay attention to the pitch of your engine. The higher the pitch, the more RPM's its doing.
4) Now lean out the HSN by 1 hour increments (30 degrees, 1/12 of a full circle etc) and continue to do some WOT runs in front of you. The engine's max RPM's should continue to go up each and every time you lean out the HSN by those 1 hour changes. If it doesn't, you have reached the top end and need to richen by an hour. Make sure that you do not continue to lean out the HSN after max RPM's have been reached. You will damage the engine.

Congratulations, you just found the sweet spot. Now, if you notice that the car/truck bogs a bit at take off, lean out the LSN (again 1 hr increments) until it will take off at the touch of the trigger. Keep in mind that any needle changes won’t take effect immediately – do a couple of long runs (50 - 100 feet or so) to make sure the air/fuel mixture has corrected to the

Which of these Traxxas Nitro rc cars are best for off road?

Here is the link to the page =D

I bought the T-MAXX 3.3,i didn't even have to click the site. The Jato is also fun,but the factory tires suck on grass. If you're a beginner go for the 2.5 T-MAXX if you have experience go with the 3.3.Feel free to mail me any time with other questions.I'm 59yrs old i been racing since they came out.If you're after electric go with the E-MAXX,it has 2 motors, the problem is,is that's not as fast, rugged and it's short running time. It's fun but the running time sucks.I had that one to but sold it cause of that.I have on and off road cars, buggies and trucks. My wife swears i love my hobby more then her.Have fun and remember if you don't break it,you're not bashing!!!!! Bye.

Traxxas Nitro Stampede Help?

I have the Traxxas Nitro Stampede gas powered rc car and i am having troubles with some gears.
my 66 tooth Spur Gear started to get really worn down so i replaced it, and ever sinced i replaced it, the Idle Gear and it will not mesh together. So when i hit the throttle the Idle Gear spins but does not hit the Spur Gear so my car does not move... Any Help?

just visualizing the problem . . .

My guess: The bearings may be worn, or your idle gear too.
Look for play between the gears. You might try replacing both gears together, being careful about the axle-to-axle distance, even if the tooth counts do not exactly match.
