How Long For Tamiya Acrylic Paint to Cure?
Mar 19, 2009 by ayecolight | Posted in Painting
Hi, I am airbrushing Tamiya acrylic paint on my EEE Pc laptop (which i am also making a how to on). I thought 1 day would be plenty of time for it to cure, until I started to reassemble it and noticed the fingerprints in the paint. I then had to apply another final coat. My question is how long until this paint will be completely cured. Thanks --Ayeco
when i airbrushed my wall it took about 4 days to be 100% dry without a single wet spot but maybe because yours is a smaller surface u probably made thicker paint layers so i would redo it and count on 5 days

Hello, i use tamiya acrylic model paint for my gundam plastic models and i want to know if i should be wearing dual filter mask to protect my self while air brushing with this type of paint. I read about it somewhere that acrylic model paint is non toxic but still very harm to your health and may cause cancer? there are warnings on the botttle about not breathing it too. so please can someone who knows well about acrylic model paint tell me what i should wear to fully protect against this type of paint. thanks alot!

This link shows you an image of the exact bottles i am planning to use with my air brush.
Acrylic paint is generally labeled non-toxic "under normal use". This means brush painting - but airbrushing makes the paint particles far too easy to breathe into your lungs. Just blow your nose after painting and you'll see how much gets up your nose!
Although there are no aromatic solvents in acrylic paint, there are other chemicals including formaldehyde. Paints using heavy metal pigments are marked with a large orange X and warn directly they must not be used for airbrushing. Long-term exposure to even the non-toxic synthetic pigments may cause sensitivity or respiratory problems.
You should be wearing a filter mask made specifically for painters. Be safe and have fun!

airbrushing tamiya and testors paint on the same model?
Jun 22, 2008 by johnseymour | Posted in Painting
Is it safe to airbrush tamiya and testors paint on the same model with possible overlap (assuming I use their respective thinners and let one paint dry before I apply the other)? Will I experience any cracking?
As long as they are both the same type of paint(laquer or enamel), you should have no problem.

What Red and white paints are needed for Mclaren Tamiya models?
Jan 07, 2008 by patav2 | Posted in Hobbies & Crafts
Im getting a Mclaren MP4/8 model and i need to know what Tamiya paints are needed.
On MOST of the Tamiya kits I've purchased, they have the MAJOR paint colors printed on the side of the box !! IF it involves mixing paints, Tamiya prints directions on the instruction sheet...
That said Tamiya #20039 should use TS-8 Italian Red and TS-7 Racing White
